The Cat in the Hat and The Fox in Socks: Read Across America

This week our Blog is brought to you by
Antonio and Logan

This week in Writing we started Informational writing. Topics include waxing skis and biking. Mr Abbott shared his knowledge of PB&J and dirty diapers as examples.

This week in Reading we are focusing on Informational books which ties into our writing.
We continue to read The BFG during snack. We are at the part where the BFG gives the Fleshlumpeater a Trogglehumper.

This week in Math we are learning how parentheses work in math problems to show the order of operations.

This week in Science we finished our geography unit and started learning about the Solar System.
Note from the Country projects: We need to go home!

Last week we celebrated Dr Seuss's birthday and Read across America by reading in the gym as a whole school for 10 minutes.

This week we celebrated Joe's birthday with a Dance Party! And a Limbo line!

Big Storm-Little School (Title and blog post by Hakon with help from Katya)

In Math this week we learned the game Math Baseball.

For Writing we have been focusing on our Google Slides for the country reports. We wrote about location, food, holidays/traditions and other interesting facts.
We also have been working on Opinion writing such as convincing readers that cats are good and discouraging the use of Puppy Mills.

In Reading we just transitioned out of the Mystery genre and are switching to Non-Fiction books.

Mr Abbott started reading The BFG by Roald Dahl.

We have been touring the world in our classroom and can't wait to share with families on Thurs. March 2nd.

We were visited by Yaeko from Japan. She taught us about some Japanese traditions including the New Year. Yaeko said that in Japan the New Year is a big celebration.

We celebrated Josh and Antonio's birthdays with dance parties.

Genius Hour Begins!

Hello Friends and Family!

March is off to a fantastic start. There's lots to talk about, but for now I just want to share a video we made today about Genius Hour. Between now and April vacation we will be spending about an hour a week becoming a "genius" in an area of our own choosing. This is a super exciting project! Today we talked about passion and time, and will be planning on doing more "10 Minute Work" instead of just "10 Second Work."

Enjoy!
