We're playing a baseball game with dice to improve our addition and multiplication skills. Our partners check our answers with a calculator to make sure we're right.
We're also playing a game called Place-ValueTop It. The object of the game is to make a higher number sequence than your opponent. We are doing all the way up to seven digit numbers. Do you know what to call a number with seven digits?
We're also learning how to write code.
We finished editing and printed our personal narratives. Parents will get to hear our stories at our Publishing Party on Wednesday morning!
We are learning how to be detectives. When we wear our detective hats we think like Sherlock Holmes. We're also learning new vocabulary words including "alibi" "sleuth" and "red herring."
Mr. Abbott finished reading "Because of Winn Dixie" and we got to watch the movie version with Mrs. Colfer's class. It was awesome. We also read a crazy story called "The Twits," by Roald Dahl. It was about two grumpy old fat people who argue all the time. Mr. Twit has a porcupine beard with food stuck in it and Mrs. Twit has a wart on her foot and likes to hit children and animals with her cane.
We started a Geography unit. We're learning that there are many different kinds of maps.
We finished our Geology unit with a water balloon experiment. We covered the balloon with clay and froze it in the teachers' Freezer of Science. We observed that the clay cracked because the water expanded. This helped us understand what happens in nature over time.
We are celebrating two birthdays. Emily and Atticus are turning 9! Everyone gets to choose a celebration. Emily chose origami and Atticus picked a dance party.
Parents are invited to a Publishing Party next Wednesday from 8-8:45 a.m. We will share stories we've been working hard on.
