Farewell and Hello!

Dear Fourth Graders,

Yes, I'm talking to YOU now!  You fourth graders starting a brand new chapter in your lives.  I want to tell each and every one of you how proud I am of you.  We had an amazing year last year, and I had so much fun watching you learn, and grow, and become the fourth graders that you are today.  Congratulations on such an amazing year, and please come back frequently to tell me how it's all going.  I feel like we can see the trajectory of our year in the two pictures below, both taken on the same day.

First, we have the way we came in during the Fall.  Pensive.  Contemplative.  Each of us looking off into the distance where we need to go:

Then, from later in that same day, I think this picture better encapsulates how we felt by the end of the year, when we had clearly spent too much time together:

Yep.  Yup.  Uh-huh.  I think that's about how it went.  :)  Although now that I look back on them, I think it's hard to tell which one of those pictures is more frightening!

Keep on doing what you do, you're very good at it.

To my brand new third graders!  See what we have to look forward to!  I'm so excited to meet you all and get to know you and introduce you to the wonders that will be third grade.  We will explore geology, tackle multiplication, delve into biographies, plum the reaches of the solar system, write more than you ever thought possible, try all kinds of new things, fail at many of them, and try them again until we figure it out.  We will boldly go places that I have never been before with a class, and in the midst of all that fun, we will learn, learn, learn along the way, together.

See you all tomorrow, for our first day of third grade!

Excitedly,
Mr. Abbott
